The XBox is dead
Posted by David Hurst in Hardware, XBox 360 on November 13th, 2007
Switched on my XBox 360 at the weekend for a nice relaxing thrash around the Nurburgring on PGR3. All was not well. Weird noises and screen garbage ensued, so I naturally rebooted, only to be faced with the red ring of death. Arse. It turns out my XBox is fried and now has to be returned. Thankfully, Microsoft are fixing it free, even though it is out of warranty. Would be nicer if it didn’t break in the first place of course.
Microsoft XBox 360 versus Sony Playstation 3 versus Nintendo Wii

Three next-gen consoles, two of which I own. The web is thoroughly saturated with enthusiastic gamers swearing allegiance to one of the mighty three to the total exclusion of all others. Personally, I think what we have here are three different, and very nice, consoles to choose from - it’s a buyer’s market, and most people want to get the most gaming bang for their buck. So, I’m going to look at this from the viewpoint of the prospective purchaser.
BT Home Hub - XBox 360 Live - Strict NAT Issues: UPDATE

2nd Update 9 March 2007
Thanks for all the comments on this. Since the original post, the Home Hub software has been upgraded, (Your Home Hub will update itself in the early hours of the morning.) and this strict NAT thing really isn’t an issue anymore. It’s very easy to fix now, and the DMZ is easy to find in the advanced section, so this information is mostly out of date. I’ll leave it up on the site in case anyone out there has older firmware and still needs help.
BT Total Broadband Review
Posted by David Hurst in Guides, Reviews, Technology, XBox 360 on October 13th, 2006
NOTE: This article was written back in 2006 and was a reflection of my experience at the time. I am no longer with BT, so I don't know whether my review is still valid. There are a few comments below from other visitors that will help you get the full picture.
It seems that BT have really got their act together with their new Total Broadband packages. Whereas the UK market is leaning towards bundled, low-cost or even free broadband, BT seem to be heading in the other direction. They clearly subscribe to the old adage that you get what you pay for. This is certainly true of broadband. I have many clients who have tied themselves into shoddy cheap or free broadband packages that just don’t work, or have appalling levels of support. The BT Total Broadband package stands head and shoulders above the Talk Talks of this world!
XBox 360 and Samsung 940MW
Posted by David Hurst in Hardware, Hardware, Technology, XBox 360 on August 25th, 2006
I have been searching for a HD screen these past few weeks that will take component inputs from my XBox 360, double up as a good PC monitor (with a reasonable resolution) and have a TV tuner. What I didn’t want was a gargantuan willy extension plasma, nor did I want to pay through the nose. Yesterday I stumbled upon the Samsung 940MW in PC World at £299 and solved my problems.
