How not to apply for a job as a web designer
Posted by David Hurst in Job Opportunities, Rants on March 19th, 2009
It’s one thing to whizz off an email to a prospective employer in which you wax lyrical about your XHTML & CSS skills, with links to your work and an attached CV. It’s quite another for the prospective employer to actually read it. But, if he does, make sure that your personal website is not a complete rip-off of the company website of the prospective employer. And, if you are that talentless that you have to steal other people’s work, at least have the common sense to replicate it with changes rather than using the ACTUAL source code of the site your stealing from.
Surely no-one could be that stupid right?
Wrong. We just had exactly this. The source code of his website still has our company slogan in the CSS styles. This is nothing more than theft, and frankly completely mystifying coming from a guy who is asking for a job as a creative.
Suffice it to say, his application on this occasion has been unsuccessful.
