Guys,

Dont get hung up on the Mexican assembly - the World has changed since the 50's. These guys are assembling guitars with aprts shipped from the US that would cost 5x that much from the US custom shop. I have all 3 Classic Player models - the two Strats (50s and 60s) are both superb and the Baja Tele is too - the setup can be a bit variable but anyone with any sense can easilly work that out. Both my Strats have incredible flame maple necks. These guitars are unbelievably undervalued.

Ignore at your peril!

Jed,

My brothers have American Strats - it compares very well to the standard and the deluxe. Fit and finish is slightly inferior, and the grade of wood used for the body might not be as good (visually more than tonally). In terms of tone and playability there's barely anything in it.

Go play one in a shop and see for yourself. Just remember that there are two different Mex 50's Strat. This one is the more expensive one. It has a V neck and different pick-up switching. The cheaper one is not available in sunburst.

The American instruments are better, but they're nowhere near twice as good, so why pay twice as much?

Bear in mind also that this is the most expensive Strat the Mexican factory makes, so it is considerably better than ordinary Mex Strats.

Cheers,

David

Well, I am still loving my guitar some weeks on. I have re-strung it since, and that didn't go so well. I bought some PRS strings in the same gauge, but they are nothing like the Fender 250 strings that come with the guitar. Somehow, they are just much more slack, so whilst they are easier to bend, you end up with fret buzz on the bass strings. I could raise the action, but I just don't want to - the guitar was perfect with the Fender strings.

Also, the PRS strings just don't seem to work as well with the tremolo, and I seem to have lost some of the natural reverb that the tremolo provides.

So, off with the PRS strings - it'll be Fender 250s forever more!
